Numeric Ratio Framework | 2009-Present


The Four Pillars is the realization of a multitude of profound influences on my work and modes of thinking. Originally conceived as a single harmonic chord for musical compositions, the numerical relationships that make up The Four Pillars now guide my practice to new methods of expression as they assert themselves in the physical and conceptual realm beyond their musical beginnings.

Encompassing performances with sustained performed pitches (Apparitions of The Four Pillars), harmonic filtering (The Four Pillars Appearing), short compositions (The Starfield Symmetry), focused harmonic studies, installations, and objects, The Four Pillars acts as an overarching strict framework within which my work can grow and flourish.

These concepts spring from the vast and powerful tradition pioneered by my teachers and mentors La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela, who continually refine their collaborative compositions over years and even decades. This careful and methodical attention to detail, this striving for perfection, is perhaps the biggest influence on my thinking.

Performances within The Four Pillars are presented in video and light environments including elements of Quadrilateral Starfield Symmetry and earlier works in light and video by Kryssy Wright and Oscar H Scott.
